Bunorr Energy Urges NCDMB to Facilitate Legislation on Disposal of Used Lube Oils

The Managing Director of Bunorr Energy Integrated Services Limited, Mr. Ikechukwu Modestus Okeke, has called for the enactment of a relevant legislative framework to guide the disposal of used lubricants drained from automotive vehicles and industrial machines in Nigeria, citing the environmental hazards posed by these non-biodegradable by-products to agricultural and aquatic life.

The Bunorr Boss made this assertion during an all-inclusive media stakeholders and sensitization visit organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to multi-million-dollar Bunorr Energy’s 36,000-capacity used lube oil refining and cycling plants located at Omagwa, Rivers State, emphasizing the enactment of relevant legislative frameworks that will consolidate the availability of used lube oil from disposable sources to sustain the feedstock.

“Bonorr Integrated Energy Plant facility is a recycling of used engine oil, a facility for the production of Base oil and other by-products on operation, which directly supports commitment to energy circularity, environmental sustainability, and local content development, thereby substituting exportation of these end products from the plant.” He said.

In his remarks, Mr. Ikechukwu further stated that the establishment of this Gangetic edifice was born out of his passion for a serene environment devoid of degradation, which would directly and indirectly affect a just natural ecosystem where pure water source, healthy soil, and biodiversity are obtainable.

“The environmental impact and benefit of recycling used engine oil in Nigeria are enormous, and apart from our operations, which support environmental sustainability goals by converting waste to valuable products, the economic benefits range from a reduction in the importation of Base Oil, contributing to the local supply chain and value addition. posited.        

Narrating the company’s journey tenders achieving its present commercial milestone, the Bunorr Boss stated that the company has, before now, witnessed some technical glitches which lasted for two years, during which the company was shut down operationally, stating that the company was able to surmount these technical glitches and has achieved uninterrupted operation for consecutive six months at a roll.

The company noted that despite the plant being shut down for over two years during technical commissioning, it was eventually able to complete this technical commissioning, followed by the test running of the plant, and by His grace Bunorr has achieved partial but stable commercial production, demonstrating the compatibility of the plant to operate continuously for a complete six months at a stretch.” He stated.

“Within these six months (October to November), we had an increase in production rates, with November 2025 recording our highest revenue and gross profit since we started operation. Our production efficiency improved by more than 30% compared to earlier months.” He added.

According to Mr. Okeke, the unprecedented milestone achieved by the company in business is attributed to improved plant reliability and cultivating good habits and a prompt maintenance culture, which enhances corrective and preventive maintenance.

“Stabilization of our boilers, condensers, fractionating column, and storage system, and unemployment of maintenance culture in replacement and repair of several critical components and better preventive maintenance practices have led to improved uptime, production growth, and recovery.” He stated.

On the critical partnership roles that the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board NCDMB has imparted positively to the successes of Bunorr business, the Managing Director of Bunorr highlighted these impactful roles as the bedrock of his company’s recent sustainability in business, stating that the NCDMB’s support has given the company credibility in the ease of doing business.              

“We proudly acknowledge that on progress over the past six months is deeply connected to the support, oversight, and strategic partnership of the NCDMB. “This backing has given us credibility before our vendors, financial institutions, and stakeholders, and one of the most tangible effects of NCDMB involvement is the growth of local Nigerian manpower within our operations.  Today, Bunorr has grown its workforce to 37 Nigerians, comprising 16 core staff and 21 non-core staff, and this number is expected to grow significantly.” He said.

“In the areas of finance and technology, the NCDMD’s direct equity investment of 3.6million dollars to the company has empowered the company financially and has propelled us to adopt modern technology. NCDMB’s quest for safety and modern process control has accelerated the addition of new technologies such as SCADA and Digital monitoring, which have invaluably improved our production,” He emphasized.

In his response, the NCDMB General Manager, Dr. Obinna, represented by the media supervisor representing Mr. Teddy Bai, informed Bunorr Integrated Energy that the purpose of the visit, comprising the crop of seasoned media personnel assembled from renowned media houses, is to showcase this unprecedented feat Bunorr Energy has achieved in the global course, as it particularly concerns green energy pursuit

He assured the company that all that was discussed and presented today, as regards the company’s success story and challenges, will indelibly get to the annals of the informed prospective concerns, in particular, and the general public, noting that the NCDMB is repositioned to play a dominant role in the sustenance of these successes and operational sustainability.
