Delivering East Africa’s Hydrogen Potential |
Introducing H-Series East Africa, exclusively co-located with the 7th East Africa Energy, Oil & Gas Summit & Exhibition (EAOGS) 2023 As part of an increasingly diverse and topical conference programme, the seventh edition of EAOGS taking place 15 -16 March in Nairobi will join together with H-Series East Africa to deliver an exclusive programme of speaker and networking sessions that are focused across the full spectrum of East Africa’s energy sector and the opportunities that lie within it. H-Series East Africa, part of a global series of Hydrogen-focussed events, aims to help Kenya and the East Africa region understand the possibilities of developing a hydrogen economy that can democratise and decarbonise energy supply and assist the country to develop into a regional hub with export revenues. |
Kenya has been leading the way in the energy transition in recent years, as the first country in East Africa to launch a 2050 climate calculator – the Kenya Carbon Emission Reduction Tool in August this year, a bespoke energy and emissions model aimed at assisting the country in achieving its climate goals for 2050. Speaking at his inauguration speech in September 2022, Kenya’s President William Ruto commented; “Kenya is on a transition to clean energy that will support jobs, local economies, and the sustainable industrialization. We call on all African states to join us in this journey. Africa can lead the world. We have immense potential for renewable energy. Reducing costs of renewable energy technologies make this the most viable energy source.” The H-Series programme will form part of the core EAOGS conference which, alongside the transition to cleaner energy, will cover the very latest updates on the other major projects being undertaken in the region, local content best practice, examples and opportunities and equality and diversity in the sector. It will be led by host, the National Oil Corporation of Kenya and the participating regional and national government and private sector organisations from across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique and Ethiopia. |
