As part of its ongoing efforts to meet the local market’s natural gas needs and respond to the increasing demand during the summer season, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is continuing preparations to enhance the necessary infrastructure to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of gas supplies.

In this context, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, conducted an inspection tour at Ain Sokhna Port, during which he followed up on the preparation works of the FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) “ENERGOS ESKIMO”, in preparation for its relocation and connection to the SUMED port terminal in Sokhna. This step is part of the ministry’s strategic plan to increase the flexibility of the national natural gas network.

The new vessel is the third regasification unit used by the ministry within an integrated system to secure gas supplies, particularly for power plants and vital sectors. It allows for the reception of imported LNG shipments, their regasification, and injection into the national gas grid — contributing to the diversification of supply sources and achieving sustainability amid current regional challenges.

During the tour, the Minister reviewed the progress of technical works and modifications on the vessel, stressing the importance of adhering to the planned timelines.

He instructed an acceleration of the necessary preparations to enable the vessel’s connection to the port in the coming days — a move that supports the capabilities of the national LNG system and enhances the secure and sustainable supply of fuel.

Eng. Karim Badawi also emphasized the strict adherence to all occupational safety, health, and environmental protection standards to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in execution.
