Eni Makes First Exploration Entry, Acquires Block A1 Block Offshore Gambia

Eni, an Italian energy major, has officially made an exploration entry into Gambia’s offshore petroleum industry, following the recent Government of The Gambia, represented by the Minister of Energy and Petroleum Honourable Nani Juwara, signing a Petroleum Exploration, Development and Production License Agreement for the Block A1 offshore the Republic of The Gambia with the company.

The Block A1 covers an area of 1,300 kmin water depths ranging from 1,250 to 3,300 m. The Block is located in a region of the Atlantic margin with proven hydrocarbon discoveries.

Eni’s entry into The Gambia is in line with the Company’s exploration strategy focused on building a geographically diversified portfolio which includes opportunities in proven but still underexplored and emerging areas and frontier ones with high potential.
