The quest for Nigeria to join the global producers and exporters of Methanol is no longer far-fetched. The actualization of this gas-oriented investment as an economic milestone for the country has underscored the present administration’s unrelenting effort to unlock the nation’s gas reserves.
Championing these massive gas investment projects across the country is the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Ph.D., who has recently undertaken a facility tour and project inspection of Supertech Chemical Industry Limited’s Methanol and Ammonium Bicarbonate Plant in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The Minister received by the Chairman of Supertech Chemical Industry Limited, Mr. Jijiang Yang, and members of his management team, described the cutting-edge facility as the first Methanol production plant in Nigeria, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of methanol and 160,000 tons of ammonium bicarbonate, establishing Nigeria as the foremost methanol producer in West Africa.
Commissions Powergas Facility in Ondo State
Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo also seized the ample opportunity to commission the 5MMSCF Gas Compression Facility built by Powergas Nigeria, located in Ore, Ondo State. The gas compression plant underscored the Powergas commitment to supporting investments that drive clean energy adoption, industrial gas utilisation, and sustainable development in Nigeria’s gas sector.
The newly commissioned CNG Mother Station, equipped with dispensers capable of refilling up to six vehicles simultaneously, represents another significant milestone in advancing the Federal Government’s CNG Penetration Programme and improving nationwide access to refuelling points for CNG vehicle users.
The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, NNPC Ltd., and Mr. Chijioke Uzoho, Managing Director/CEO of the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN).
