Nigeria – Libya Proposed Gas Pipeline Project Enters Next Stage

Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Petroleum and Gas, State of Libya, Dr. Khalifa Rajab Abdulsalek, in a pursuit to finalize the necessary modalities for onward take-off of the Nigeria-Libya Gas Pipeline Project

The meeting with the country delegations was held at the sidelines of the ongoing GasTech Conference in Milan, Italy, and focused on strengthening energy cooperation between Nigeria and Libya, with emphasis on the progress of the proposed Nigeria-Libya gas pipeline project.

The high-powered Nigeria-Libya gas pipeline project meeting ended with a shared commitment to advance the project with the establishment of a technical working group to evaluate the detailed feasibility study, optimize the route, and develop an investment framework for the proposed pipeline project.

The preliminary engagement, when concluded, will usher in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which unveils the fiscal and duration of the project.

Key stakeholders in Nigeria’s gas sector delegation include Senator Kawu Sumaila, Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream Petroleum; Farouk Ahmed, Authority Chief Executive, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA); and Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Limited.

Others in the delegation include Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director/CEO, Nigeria LNG Limited, and Ambassador Mustapha Chagwas Mohammed, Charge D’Affaires, Nigerian Embassy in Italy.
