Nigeria has announced a major milestone in its diversification pursuit for a clean energy transition roadmap. This is following the official launching of her hydrogen development agenda. The minister with unreserved excitement for this great opportunity stated that the nation’s Hydrogen programme comprising both Blue and Green initiatives has presented immense opportunities for the country’s energy mix in the areas of investment, accessibility, availability, and great economic opportunities.

“With our abundant natural resources, strategic geographic position, and growing industrial base, Nigeria is poised to become a key player in the global hydrogen economy.

“This policy will integrate hydrogen into our energy mix, attract investment, and diversify our revenue streams. Hydrogen is not only an economic opportunity but also a critical tool for decarbonization, energy security, and industrial transformation, Hon. Minister stated.

Hon. Ekperikpe appreciated the efforts and the commitment of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and the German Agency for International Cooperation on the courtesy visit to his office in support of this great initiative,

“I commend my colleague, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, for reaffirming his ministry’s commitment to this initiative. Likewise, I appreciate GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) for their unwavering support in partnering with us to unlock the potential of hydrogen energy.

“I urge all stakeholders in this project to collaborate to craft a policy that serves Nigeria’s interests and aligns with our national energy strategy, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Nigeria will not be left behind in the global energy transition,” Ekperikpe added.

With the trend towards carbon neutrality, hydrogen, as the clean energy with ZERO emission, has been taken as the future energy center in supporting key industries and to become the critical medium in bringing together renewable energy power, heat, and utilities.. Green hydrogen will play a vital role in the future development of green ammonia/fertilizer, green steel industries, and green transportation
