The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has concluded plans to flag off the construction of five mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State as the groundbreaking ceremony has been slated to be held on January 30, 2025.
The corporation disclosed on its official X handle that the milestone groundbreaking ceremony theme ‘from gas to prosperity, catalysing Nigeria’s economic growth’ is to flag off the construction of five (5) Mini LNG Plants, namely PRIME LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, Nigeria.
These five Mini LNG small-scale gas plants are expected to serve as parts of downstream facilitates for the ongoing AKK gas pipeline project which will invariably supply the gas feed for the production, storage, and distribution of liquefied natural gas tranches through trucks to industrial end users across the nation.

The proposed flag off ceremony of the state of the art five (5) Mini LNG Plants – PRIME LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete – however has reiterated the previous pronouncement made by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Local Content, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the just concluded 9th Practical Nigerian Content conference held in December 2024 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
Senator Natasha was in her keynote address hailed the stakeholders in the nation energy sector for the choice of locating these monumental edifice in her senatorial zone, Ajaokuta Kogi siting the economic importance of these projects are to the people of the zone in particular and the nation at large. She further stated that the project has repositioned the State as energy investment hub of the nation.
“We are grateful to NNPC and industry experts for this significant investment in Ajaokuta. Five mini LNG plants will be flagged off early next year, marking a transformative step for our community and the country. This is great news for Nigeria and a critical opportunity to establish Ajaokuta as a technology hub driving innovation and industrial growth,” Akpoti-Uduaghan had said.
