NUPRC, Galileo to Partner in Advancement of Gas Flare Reduction Technology

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced a strategic partnership with an Argentinian Tech Company, Galileo towards reduction of Gas flaring within the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. The collaboration aims to leverage on innovative modular technology to support the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Program (NGFCP).

Accompanied by the Argentinian Charge’ d’ Affairs to Nigeria, Nicolas Perazzo, the team lead, Mr. Okonkwo emphasized that, Galileo’s commitment to fully supporting the NGFCP and partnering with the program’s winners to ensure its success. He highlighted the technology’s potential to significantly benefit industry stakeholders by providing a practical solution to gas flaring challenges.

The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr. Gbenga Komolafe expressed the commission’s dedication to the NGFCP, noting its critical role in generating a pipeline of opportunities for the nation. The CCE underscored that the program not only benefits the nation but also offers substantial advantages to investors, aligning with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) mandate to pursue the Gas Flare Act.

NUPRC’s partnership with Galileo is viewed as a strategic move, given the technology company’s vast potential to contribute to the commission’s objectives to foster collaboration. Already the NUPRC has established a College of Awardees, an interactive team comprising financiers, awardees, and technology producers. This team will work together to ensure the success of the NGFCP.

To date, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued 49 awards aimed at eliminating 500 million standard cubic feet of gas (scf) from flaring. The College of Awardees will meet periodically, both virtually and physically, to facilitate ongoing collaboration and progress tracking.

In a bid to further streamline efforts and maximize the impact of the partnership, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe recommended that the Commission’s Executive Commissioner Corporate Services and Administration, Dr Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu make the list of awardees available to Galileo in a beat to facilitate the creation of an interface to achieve the national objective, which is paramount to the commission.

The collaboration between NUPRC and Galileo marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards reducing gas flaring, enhancing environmental sustainability, and promoting economic growth.
