The Nigerian Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo has inspected KP0, which is the beginning of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline, to commemorate the completion of the Mainline Welding and Associated Works segment of the critical Natural Gas Pipeline Project.
Dr. Ekperikpe, who was accompanied by the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, other senior industry officials, and management staff of NNPC Limited, as well as the MD of Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd. (ASCL), Prof. Nasir Abdulsalam, commended NNPC Limited for completing the AKK Mainline ahead of schedule.
In line with the project schedule, the AKK Mainline is projected to be completed by the end of December 2025. Oilserv was able to complete the section of the project ahead of time. The honorable Minister described the milestone as a demonstration of the resilience, professionalism, and commitment of the project team.
According to the Minister, the completion of the AKK Mainline aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic growth, expanded energy access, and shared prosperity for all parts of the Country.
He noted that the AKK Gas Pipeline is a strategic national infrastructure that will drive economic development across the Northern States by supplying natural gas for power generation, supporting gas-based industries, and advancing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiatives, while enhancing industrialisation, job creation, and energy security.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) announced in July that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline has successfully crossed the River Niger, boosting the hope of the project’s completion by Q4 2025, noting that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021) has placed NNPC Ltd. in a good position to live up to its responsibility of leading the industry in financing projects.
