The Director General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has met with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the sidelines of the ongoing 17th BRICS Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister in two non-consecutive terms under two different presidents: Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. She was also briefly the Foreign Minister in 2006, making her the first woman to hold both positions.

Okonjo-Iweala made this disclosure of the meeting with President Tinubu recently on her X handle, formerly Twitter. During the meeting, she seized the ample opportunity to interact with the Nigerian President on the successful bid for Women Exporters in the Digital Economy Fund, WEIDE Fund.

She further lauded Nigeria’s move to be part of the global fund, describing it as a right step in the right direction, as the fund will go a long way in empowering Nigerian women to scale up their enterprises in the digital space.

The WEIDE Fund is a global initiative jointly funded by the WTO and the International Trade Centre (ITC) aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs in developing countries to expand their businesses through international trade and digitalization
