Nigerian Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has hailed Renaissance Africa Energy Company following a prolific oil discovery of about 37 billion barrels of reserves from the JK-004 exploration well offshore the Niger Delta.

The minister made this revelation during his opening remarks on Day 2 of the NOG Energy Week Conference & Exhibition 2026, held at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre Abuja Nigeria with the theme

In his remarks, Sen. Lokpobiri, while pouring encomia to the management, staff and partners of Renaissance, described the Renaissance recent oil discovery as an unprecedented feat, noting that the last time such a major discovery was made was 30 years ago and such prolific oil reserves are only restricted to the Niger Delta hydrocarbon deposit play.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I want to congratulate the management and staff, leadership, and joint partners of Renaissance and, by extension, I appeal to other companies also to do same so that we can continue to grow our reserves, because the reserves of 37 billion barrels of oil can only be restricted to the Niger Delta, and the result has been for 30 years. I believe that a lot more lies in the Niger Delta,” Heineken stated.

In a similar vein, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has disclosed that the company’s significant hydrocarbon discovery was made in the JK-004 exploration well oil mining lease (OML) 74 offshore Nigeria.

The managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Renaissance, Tony Attah, in his remarks, stated that the discovery, being the company’s first oil exploration milestone coming within short period of its operatorship, reflects the company’s commitment and the resilient collective efforts of its entire staff, partners, regulators and contractors in a bid to unlock Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves in meeting its global production target.

“The success of JK-004, just over one year after assuming operatorship of these assets, demonstrates the strength of our exploration programme,” Attah said.

In stressing the role played by the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Attah stated that the milestone couldn’t have been possible without the collaboration the company forged with its joint venture (JV) partners, comprising the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, TotalEnergies Limited, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources.

The company further stated that preliminary evaluation indicated that the JK-004 well encountered an estimated 1,000-foot hydrocarbon-bearing interval spanning seven reservoirs, and initial log interpretation and fluid analysis confirm excellent reservoir quality and light oil.
