Repsol has started exploration operations in the Murzuq Basin, after a long period of pause of activity in northern African regions for more than ten years since 2014.

On 31 December 2024, the company started drilling operations in the exploratory well (A1=2/130) (Muammal Nesr).

The formation of the Momaniyyat will also be tested in it, and its final depth is 6050 feet.

This well is 800 kilometers away from the capital, Tripoli, and only 12 kilometers away from the Sharara oil field.
