The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) the commissioning of Nigeria’s first Interconnected Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid in the Toto community of Nasarawa State, scheduled for tomorrow, November 9, 2023. This event marks a significant advancement in the nation’s pursuit of universal electricity access and sustainable energy solutions. In a robust collaboration with Powergen Nigeria Limited and Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), the REA has successfully facilitated the completion of the 352kWp solar hybrid mini-grid project, a pioneering step in the electrification of rural communities in Nigeria.

The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, His leadership in the Renewed Hope Administration has been pivotal in championing policies that foster the integration of renewable energy sources into the national power grid. Operating under the aegis of the Federal Government and aligned with the objectives of the 2023 Electricity Bill, this project is envisioned as a fundamental component in the socio-economic upliftment of rural communities. Through this initiative, the administration underscores its commitment to propelling Nigeria towards a future of sustainable and accessible energy. Engr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, Managing Director of REA, along with Mr. Christopher Ezeafulukwe, Managing Director of AEDC, and Seun Edun, Country Director of Powergen, will also be in attendance to witness this transformative occasion.

This interconnected mini-grid, an outcome of the World Bank-funded Nigeria Electrification Project, now supplies consistent and renewable electricity to over 2,800 households and businesses in Toto, drastically improving the quality of life and economic potential of the community.
