Senegal’s national oil refinery has safely received its first delivery of oil from the Sangomar Field, marking a milestone for Woodside and Senegal’s state-owned petroleum company, PETROSEN. The refinery, officially known as Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR), took delivery of the cargo on 8 February.

Clive Jones, VP Senegal, said he was pleased Senegal was now receiving product from the nation’s first oil project. “Having sold a number of cargoes to international markets since project start-up, it is very satisfying to see Sangomar product now being safely delivered to a local refinery,” Clive said.

The delivery of oil to SAR represents the first under Sangomar’s Domestic Supply Obligation (DSO) and Clive said it was an important step in the project’s progress. “This achievement reflects the hard work and collaboration of all stakeholders involved,” he noted.

The Sangomar Project is owned by the RSSD joint venture (JV) which comprises Woodside Energy Senegal B.V. and PETROSEN. Sangomar’s performance had been exceptional since first oil production in June 2024, producing more than 13 MMboe of crude by year end. Sangomar reached nameplate capacity in nine weeks, an exceptional outcome.

Outstanding production reliability and safety performance has since continued. This follows the project phase safety performance where 30 million hours were worked without a serious injury. The project is a fine example of Woodside’s expertise in project execution and operational excellence.

”Congratulations are due to all those who have taken part in its success for their dedication and collaboration: from the Woodside teams and contractors to the Senegal government and its agencies; from industry stakeholders to the local communities.

The same could be said of the delivery of first oil to SAR. It was made possible through the close collaboration of Woodside Energy, SAR, and PETROSEN Trading & Services (T&S) – PETROSEN’s trading entity”. Woodside Energy
