
TotalEnergies and partners have indicated interest in restarting the flagship Mozambique LNG Project in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, following the enhanced security conditions and close alignment with the Government of Mozambique.
The Company has formally notified the Government of Mozambique of its decision to lift the Force Majeure previously declared on the Project, welcoming the significant improvement in the security situation in Cabo Delgado, working with the Government of Mozambique and regional partners, and contingent on completion of the updated budget and schedule aligned with government oversight.
The restart of Mozambique LNG underscores TotalEnergies’ commitment to unlocking world-class natural gas resources while partnering for sustainable development in Mozambique. The Project is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for Mozambique, including local employment, infrastructure investment, and community development programs
The Project was initially valued at approximately USD 20 billion and, upon restart, is expected to deliver an LNG liquefaction facility with initial capacity of ~13 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), with potential expansion up to ~43 mtpa.
TotalEnergies, as Operator and with a 26.5 % working interest, is working in concert with industry partners including Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (20 %), ENH – Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (15 %), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (10 %), Oil India Limited (10 %), ONGC Videsh Limited (10 %), and PTTEP International Limited (8.5 %) to restart the Project.
