Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline (TSGP) Project has Achieved Significant Milestones following the recent endorsement of the Steering Committee resolutions for the project in Algiers, Algeria. The $13 billion and 4,000-kilometer pipeline project will transport gas from Nigeria to the Mediterranean Sea en route to Europe.

Disclosing this landmark stride is the Nigeria Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo as he joined other African stakeholders including Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, H.E. Mohammed Arkab, and Niger Republic’s Minister of Petroleum, Dr. Sahabi OUAMAROU, witnessed the great event in Algiers, Algeria.

According to Hon. Ekperikpe, “the endorsement has paved the way for the execution of three key agreements: Feasibility Study Revalidation/Update – a comprehensive review of the project’s viability and potential; Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)-a confidentiality pact ensuring sensitive information remains protected; and Reimbursement Agreement -a financial arrangement outlining terms for reimbursement among the TSGP partners”.

The TSGP project has been on the drawing board for decades as Nigeria and Algeria have done major parts of the construction on their respective fronts leaving Niger behind. Nigeria, a natural gas-rich country, has embarked on aggressive gas utilization projects including the Ajaokuta Kano Kaduna (AKK) pipeline project and the West Africa Gas Project (WAGP) in harnessing this abundant resource.

Other executives from NNPC Ltd, SONATRACH, and SONIDEP are among the stakeholders that signed the agreements.
