Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), the country’s oil company, has stated that the company has spent over USD 38 million on Capacity Building and Human Development for more than 14,000 Ugandans in the oil and gas sector.
The company stated that for the country to brace up with its global contemporaries, there is a need to scale up its Capacity and Human investment to ensure that Ugandans are equipped with world-class expertise to take on roles across the value chain and drive global competitiveness.
“This is one of the most impactful capacity-building initiatives in Uganda’s history,” UNOC stated
Petroleum Authority of Uganda has in 2024 stated that since 2021, the Nation’s oil company has given a green light to contracts with local contractors to a total value of about USD 7.16 billion, which are meant to be part of the ongoing Tilenga and King Fisher projects in the country
According to the PAU, nearly USD 1.8 billion of these contracts went straight to Ugandan companies, representing 25% of the entire total contract sum.
“Local companies’ participation in the ongoing Tilenga – Kingfisher project is a very important key factor for empowerment of local labour and technology transfer in the oil and gas sector, which will invariably reduce unemployment, directly impacting skill acquisition to the youths,” PAU said.
