Voltalia has secured a new 132-megawatt solar project, following the Sagdoud project in May 2024 and the Menzel Habib project in December 2024. This new 132-megawatt solar project, located in the Gabès region located in southeastern Tunisia, is not far from the Menzel Habib site.
The new solar project has brought Voltalia’s total capacity of projects slated for construction in the country to nearly 400 megawatts. The geographical proximity of the Wadi, Menzel Habib, and Sagdoud projects will enable optimized synergies by pooling certain construction, transportation, and maintenance costs.
Construction will begin in 2027, with commissioning scheduled for 2028. The plant will produce renewable energy equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 200,000 people. It will also support Tunisia’s energy transition goals by preventing 120,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
This new project aims to support Tunisia’s ambitious goals: to increase the share of renewable energy to 30% of its electricity production by 2030, compared to only 6% at the end of April 2025, according to the Energy Situation Observatory.
“We are very pleased to have been selected for this new project in Tunisia. This step not only strengthens our presence in a region with strong solar potential, but it also allows us to more closely support the country’s energy ambitions. I would like to commend the remarkable work of our local teams: thanks to their expertise and commitment, we are making concrete and determined progress towards achieving the objectives we share with our Tunisian partners.” Robert Klein, CEO of Voltalia, states.
