Libreville airport has just received the ACA 3+ (Airport Carbon Accreditation) carbon neutrality certificate set up by ACI (Airport Council International) Europe, to assess and recognize the efforts of airports in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, inform the managers of Arise IS, manager of Libreville Airport. With this certification, this airport platform becomes “ the 1st airport in Central Africa and the 2nd in all of Africa to achieve carbon neutrality ”, says Arise.
This certification, which is awarded to Libreville airport two years after obtaining the ACA 2 carbon neutrality certificate, “ testifies to our commitment to a sustainable future. In fact, in addition to the direct control of our greenhouse gas emissions, we contribute to limiting and offsetting the emissions of third parties within the airport ,” Arise maintains. It should be noted that Libreville airport has been participating in the ACI Europe greenhouse gas emissions reduction program since 2015. In this context, in recent years it has carried out an energy audit of its facilities with a view to determining the energy-intensive equipment and facilities as well as the time slots for high energy consumption. This has made it possible, we learn, to implement actions to reduce electricity and fuel consumption. In particular, the shutdown of a refrigeration unit after 6 p.m., the installation of low-energy consumption equipment during building repairs (LED lights, low-consumption air conditioning, etc.) among others.
