The NUPRC Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), have disclosed plans that are centred on strengthening the working relationship between both regulators and charting a path toward a more coherent, industry-enabling regulatory environment across Nigeria’s entire petroleum value chain.
The disclosure was unveiled by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) boss on Wednesday, when the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, was hosted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Both institutions used the occasion to reaffirm their shared responsibility for the health of the sector — upstream, midstream, and downstream — and their commitment to speaking with one voice on matters that affect operators and investors alike.
The regulators acknowledged that they draw from the same foundational mandate – the Petroleum Industry Act – and that the industry functions best when that common origin translates into coordinated action.
The NUPRC boss noted the shared sense of purpose that underpinned the engagement. She pointed to the absence of fuel supply disruptions in recent months — despite considerable global pressure — as evidence that coordinated regulation is already producing results.
The NMDPRA Authority Chief Executive echoed this sentiment, describing both bodies as inseparable partners in Nigeria’s energy future.
Both regulators also acknowledged the enabling environment created by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration in creating the conditions for industry progress, including decisive policy interventions and the harmonisation of fiscal and security frameworks across relevant agencies.
