Ssonic Petroleum Limited, an integrated indigenous oil and gas company with over 17 years of operational excellence in the upstream and midstream sectors, has emerged as one of the magnificent 31 that successfully won 37 oil licensing blocks, after a transparent and competitive 2025 Licensing Round by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), with Ssonic Petroleum Limited grabbing the prolific Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL) 2A29 (Okoroma Field).
This achievement represents a significant milestone in the Company’s continued growth and strengthens its expanding presence across Nigeria’s energy value chain. Building on its existing upstream gas development activities, the award of PPL 2A29 further advances Ssonic Petroleum’s long-term strategy of developing high-quality energy assets that contribute to Nigeria’s energy security, economic development and responsible resource management.
The NUPRC’s 2025 Licensing Round attracted strong participation from indigenous and international energy companies, reflecting continued investor confidence in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas industry. Ssonic Petroleum is honoured to be among the successful companies selected through a transparent and competitive commercial bid process.

Following the fulfilment of all regulatory conditions, including payment of the applicable signature bonus and the issuance of the Petroleum Prospecting Licence, Ssonic Petroleum will commence the technical, environmental and operational activities required to advance the exploration and appraisal of the asset in full compliance with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), 2021.
As a leading figure in natural gas commercialization and utilisation programmes in Nigeria, Ssonic is currently developing a state-of-the-art liquefaction facility in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos. This is part of efforts by the company to boost domestic gas utilisation for industrial and economic growth of the nation and promote the use of gas as a cleaner, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly fuel in keeping to reduce global warming.
On March 6, 2025, Nigeria Gas Management Limited (NGML), a subsidiary of NNPC Limited, in partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited, signed a 20-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement with Ssonic Petroleum. This agreement entails the supply of 80 MMSCFD of natural gas to Ssonic Petroleum’s proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in the Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Lagos State.

PPL 2A29 covers an area excised from (cut out from) OML 29 in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021. PPL 2A29 is situated in the Coastal Swamp Depobelt in the eastern Niger Delta sedimentary basin. The closest flow station is Nembe Creek.
